Catch the Bus on Sunday

I'm currently looking at the Detroit Transit History website and all the info on the Detroit buses of the past and present. I've been looking at this site for the past few years, and the information and pictures here are really interesting and informative to read and look at. I enjoy reading about all the old bus routes. My parents remember many of these bus routes, and I remember some of them, as well. I like the pictures of the older buses, as well as the more recent ones. Girl Scout Week is fast approaching

Tomorrow starts Girl Scout week. Girl Scout week usually is the week around the founding of the Girl Scouts, in March of 1912. Here's a history of the Girl scouts on their website. I'm a former Girl Scout, going through all levels (Daisies through Seniors). I remember doing things for Girl Scout week when I was in Brownies and Juniors. We focused more on jobs and volunteering when we got to Cadettes and Seniors. I still have many of my pictures from bridging ceremonies, Investiture/Rededication ceremonies, trips, and more. I remember being at church with my troop for Girl Scout Sunday one year as a Brownie. I've reconnected with one of the girls I was in Scouts with back in the days via Social Networking (Twitter, Facebook). More tomorrow.

Spring is near!

Spring is in the air, and I decided I'd add this picture, taken while at the Detroit Winter Blast in mid-February, because it reminds me of flying kites and a general spring-like image The weather's getting warmer here in Metro Detroit, and everyone's trying to get outside again, which is a good thing. It's always good to see people out and about. Soon enough, people will be out in parks and other places getting fresh air in the summer doing things with their families and friends. I've seen lots of Family Reunions around town the past few years. It's always a good sight to see during the summer with all the people there to celebrate family. The Tigers are coming north soon, so many people are going to see them, as well. I hope you all get to go out and about this spirng to spend time with those you care about the most.

A tidbit from the news world

I was watching TV today, and I saw a story about the 20th anniversary of the late Hank Gathers. I found this article on USA Today while looking around Yahoo. Reading the article, I found out about his friend, Bo Kimble, starting the Forty-Four for Life Foundation to help people learn more about heart disease and other heart ailments. I think that Heart Ailments should be further studied so they could have better treatments can be found to help or cure them. I also think that there should be a low-cost way to help people get tested for any heart problems. More later or tomorrow.

Soccer and Festivals

I saw this sign at the Winter Blast for the Green Soccer Bowl. As you can see, this is the first year for it, and it seems like it'll be a great event with teams from Kenya, Puerto Rico, Malaysia and Ghana. I never really followed soccer (or Football as it's called in various parts of the world), but I'd like to start following it. The Silverdome has sat vacant for the most part since the early 2000s, when the Lions left for Ford Field. A few events have been held there in the past few years, but it's mostly been vacant. I remember going to a carnival at the Silverdome as a kid. A new owner bought it from the city of Pontiac within the past few years. As I wrote that last sentence, I thought about Jambalaya, which was a festival held in downtown Pontiac. The only year I went was in 2005. I enjoyed myself a great deal. I can't wait to go to many of the festivals around town this summer.

Sing along to the songs

I was just thinking of my favorite songs today that I originally heard on Canadian Radio.One of the songs that I heard on there that I liked was the song "Sherry", by the Keane Brothers. I heard the song the first time a couple of years ago and immediately liked the song. I looked up some info on them, and found out that they were young when the single and their self-titled first album came out in the late 1970s. They also had their own Variety show, as well (variety shows were popular in the '70s). For more info on the Keanes, check out a blog dedicated to them with lots of pictures and other info. Another of my favorite songs is "Leaving LA" by Deliverance. This song reminds me of cruising along on a summers evening with friends, or sitting on the shore of a river or a lake taking in the scene. This song was recorded in the late seventies, as well. I heard a song by the group Dr. Music called "Sun Goes By" on the radio, as well. I like listening to the radio. My favorite Genres of music are Rock, Country, Pop, R&B, Electronic and Jazz. I grew up listening to Country with my Dad as he drove along, and Pop/rock/R&B with my Mom as we traveled together. I started listening to Electronic Music in about 2000 or so, and really got into it after going to the Techno Festival in Downtown Detroit. What are your favorite kinds of music?

Baseball season is coming up!!

Since it's March 1, I decided to post this picture of the Detroit Tiger at Comerica Park. Since Opening day is a little over a month away, Baseball is the first thing on my mind. I've been following the Tigers since 2001, and with great interest since 2003. The first Tigers game I attended was in July 1993, when I went to Tiger Stadium with my Dad to attend a game against Kansas City, who we happen to be playing Opening Day. I remember going through the Turnstiles, and looking at the blue interiors on the way to our seats, as well as seeing all the people waiting in line at Concession stands, Gift stands and on their way to their seats. My First game at Comerica Park was on April 9, 2005 against Cleveland. I was downtown and didn't have much to do. I noticed that the Tigers were playing a day game, and decided to go to see them. I got my ticket at the door, and headed to my seat. It was the beginning of the second inning when I to my seat. I was thoroughly impressed with my first trip to Comerica Park. I've been seeing them regularly since 2006. I enjoy seeing the Tigers play the competition. This year, I need to learn how to keep score so I can follow the action. I hope you get a chance to follow your favorite team in whatever sport you like. More later or tomorrow.
