View from the Auto Show

As I look at this picture from the Volkswagen exhibit at the Auto Show this year, I think of all the nice cars I saw there, as well as the concept and electric cars. I hear that the Auto Show attendance was up from the 2009 show. The '09 show was smaller than this year's show, mainly because a lot of the automakers that are usually at the show weren't there. I can't wait to go to next year's show. I think it'll be exciting. I liked seeing the electric cars More later or tomorrow.

"Eee-Yah!"

I like this picture of the late Hughie Jennings, which is in the Tigers' clubhouse. He's shown doing a dance and possibly yelling his trademark "Eee-Yah!". He looks like he's having a good time in this picture. According to his Wikipedia Page, he was the manager of the Tigers from 1907-1920, during the Ty Cobb years. He used to yelp "Eee-yah" and do a little dance, which was part of his on-field antics. His nameplate under the picture has the Tigers Logo and the Baseball Hall of Fame logo, as is the case with all Hall of Famers that played for Detroit during their career, whether they are wearing a Tiger hat on their plaque or not. Well, more later or tomorrow.

Tiger Toons

This picture is of some Tiger Cartoons in the '30s, taken at TigerFest. My favorite cartoons include the Tiger jumping excitedly on the left, and the Tiger and Cardinal on the right. These cartoons were originally printed during the Tigers 1935 run to the World Series Championship . I read on the little box in the center of the cartoons that the Tigers provided a welcome distraction from the Depression in 1935. I think that the cartoonists did a great job with these cartoons. These cartoons make me smile when I see them, especially the ones I mentioned as my favorites. Well, more later or tomorrow.

People hopped up on the steps of the booth to see who was autographing when I was there. Well, more later or tomorrow.

Decade of Comerica Park Baseball, 2000-2010

It's hard to believe that it's been 10 years since Comerica Park opened to the public. It seems like it was only yesterday that the Tigers left Tiger Stadium. This picture that I post today is of the 2000 Tigers team board at TigerFest. I wonder if the Tigers will be doing anything for Comerica Park's 10 year anniversary, like a ceremony or special event, or if the Tigers will be wearing a special patch on their jerseys like they did for the All Star game in 2005 and the final season at Tiger Stadium in 1999. Looking at this picture, I see the names of my favorite Tigers from back then, Damion Easley and Bobby Higginson. I was only 16 when Comerica Park opened, and I remember coming home from school and watching some of the festivities on the news that evening. My first game at Comerica Park was in April 2005, just after the Tigers home opener. It was a Saturday, and I didn't have much to do. I saw the Tigers were playing, and decided to go take in a game. I enjoyed myself. Well, more later or tomorrow.

Tiger Legends

Here is one of my favorite pictures from TigerFest. This picture is of the Tiger legends near the Tiger Clubhouse. I like how the pictures are tinted in the team colors of blue and orange, with different decades of Tiger players, along with the 2006 American League Pennant winning team on the very near-end, which is partially pictured. Under the head shots of the players are various action and posed shots of Tiger players, such as George Kell, John Hiller, Guillermo Hernandez, Bill Freehan, Cecil Fielder and Chet Lemon. The World Series Championships are mentioned under the pictures of Alan Trammell (1984), Al Kaline (1968), Hank Greenberg (1945), and Mickey Cochrane (1935). My favorite pictures that are here are of Lou Whitaker, Hank Greenberg, Charlie Gehringer and Alan Trammell. My parents remembered Al Kaline and Willie Horton from 1968 and before. My mother liked Willie Horton and Gates Brown, and my Dad remembers when Al Kaline entered the league in the '50s. Hope you like this picture as much as I do! More tomorrow.

Happy 92nd Birthday to Ernie Harwell!

I post today's picture, which was taken at TigerFest this past Saturday, in honor of Ernie Harwell's 92nd Birthday! I wish him the best this day and always. I remember meeting Mr. Harwell at Opening Day in 2007 and 2008, when he was posing for pictures with Fans. Ernie Harwell was the Tigers' broadcaster from 1960-2002. This statue was placed at Comerica Park shortly before his retirement in September of 2002. The left side there tells about his broadcasting stops through the years. The only year he wasn't with the Tigers between 1960-2002 was in 1991, when he was fired. I read somewhere that people were so outraged by the move that they wanted to boycott the Tigers . Mr. Ilitch, the current owner of the Tigers, re-hired him shortly after he assumed ownership of the team. More later or tomorrow.

TigerFest Blog '10

This picture I post today was taken at TigerFest at Comerica Park yesterday. I like this ice sculpture, especially the two Tigers on the left and right. I had a good time, and made a day of it by going to breakfast beforehand, and to Church afterward. I enjoyed all the informative Q&A Sessions, which were broadcast on all the televisions across the stadiums, so people waiting in line for pictures or autographs could watch and listen while waiting. I enjoyed getting autographs and pictures, as well. THis was my fifth TigerFest. I've been going since 2006, when it was at Joe Louis Arena. It was a little cold, but not as cold as last year's 'fest, where it was downright polar, with temperature was in the teens or low 20s with lower windchills. There were lines, but many moved quickly, especially the line for the Photo Area. The longest line I experienced was at one of the Autograph Lines at the Beer Hall/Tiger Den area, where I waited almost 2 hours for an autographs. I was my usual patient self and listened to the radio while waiting my turn. There was a lot to see and do at TigerFest, as usual. I hope you all like this picture. I'll try to post more within the coming days. Well, more later or tomorrow. Lauren

Gem Car Friday

This little Gem Car caught my eye while looking at my Auto Show pictures. I like this car because it's Compact and is battery powered. I saw a Detroit Police Gem Cruiser at last year's show, and also this summer at the Detroit Back-To-School parade. While looking at their website, I see that this little car runs for about $8,340 MSRP, and a little over $7,000 for the Base MSRP. These cars are pretty good for getting around, and many places can use them for different things. Well, more later or tomorrow.

Articles and opinions, 1/21/10

I ran across an article in today's Detroit Free Press about Miguel Cabrera being in treatment for Alcoholism This all stems from an incident that happened at the end of last season where he had a little too much to drink during a night on the town. He says that he'll be better than before. I admire him for seeking help. I think that you should get help from somebody if you know you're having a problem. You can become a better person when you are away from personal demons and temptations in the world. Sometimes, you just need a listening ear to hear you out without being judgemental or critical of what's going on, and sometimes you may need therapy for more complex issues. Whatever course of action you take, it's always good to know that you'll feel better and you'll be a better person to those you know and care about.

TWaSbL's Favorite Cars at the '10 Detroit Auto Show

Here are some pictures of my favorite cars as seen at the Auto Show yesterday. Hope you like some of these cars, as well.
The Ford Flex is one of my favorites. It's long and it's a roomy car I've seen these cars on the road, and they look like they handle really well. The Sync has Microsoft Sync inside, so you can connect your cell phone, MP3 player, and other High-tech electronics to the car so you won't have to fumble for anything while driving. Another of my favorite cars at the Auto Show is the Jeep Wrangler. They're high up off the ground, but they're visually Aesthetic, and they can carry almost anything. My favorite editions of the Jeep are the Islander Edition and the Unlimited editon, shown here. I can see someone cruising around in this Jeep during the summer months on trips to the beach or just cruising around town on a summer evening.

The Chevy Camaro was a popular car at the Auto Show. This car is a sleek car that gets about average gas mileage. I've seen Camaros used as race cars as well as for Cruising cars. Camaros and Corvettes are always favorites and collectible cars in the public arena. I've seen lots of people with old Camaros from the '60s and '70s, and they're always spectacular, no matter what the year.
Mini had these chairs up near their new Beachcomber Concept Car. I liked all the Minis, but especially the Mini E, which is their plug-in Cooper. The Mini E is one of many electric cars at the Auto Show this year. It's a small car, and they say it handles like a go-cart. I've always liked the Mini exhibit since they came to the Detroit Auto Show a few years ago.

Hope you all liked these pictures! More later or tomorrow.

Auto Show '10 Blog

Today I went out to the Auto Show. It was a great time, as always. I liked to look at all the new Cars, such as the "Big Three" Automakers of General Motors, Chrysler and Ford, BMW (Whose sign is shown here in today's entry), Mini, Bentley, and more. My favorite cars included the Ford Fiesta and Flex, the GM Silverado and and , the Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Charger, Mini E and many more. There was a big emphasis on Electric cars, as well. I'll try to post more pictures soon. More later or tomorrow.

Article Talk 1/17/10

I saw this article in today's Online edition of the Detroit News. It talks about how the Pistons and Red Wings could share an arena in Downtown Detroit. I'm not quite sure about the idea at the moment. The Pistons played downtown back in the days, and the Wings currently play downtown. I'd like to see them both play at the same location. I don't know how they'd handle them playing several times in the same week. The Article talks about the lease for Joe Louis Arena not being renewed after this year, and they are looking for a temporary home for the Wings, with Ford Field being mentioned in the article. I think that Ford Field could handle all those fans, with the Lions and Red Wings sharing space when special events aren't being held. Well, more later or tomorrow.

Building Talk

This picture, taken on January 8, 2010, was taken from the RenCen People Mover stop. It's of the many downtown buildings after a snowstorm the day after a snowstorm, hence the snow on the Jefferson median and even along the track. In the next week or so, the People Mover will be the way to get around, since the Auto Show opened to the public today. I like looking at all these buildings while waiting on the People Mover at the RenCen stop after going to breakfast or lunch at the RenCen or stopping in for a few things. I think about how some of the buildings have evolved over the years. Well, more later or tomorrow.
